FASHION WITH A CAUSE

Since becoming a mother, I have been even more aware of my purchases and the stories behind the brands. I've always been keen to discover fashion and homeware brands that have a cause, are ethically sourced and use natural fabric's. Some of my favourites are TOMS, and the H&M Conscious Collection.

For me, I love knowing that the products I'm buying give more than just myself the benefit of having them. Luckily for me, there are more and more brands that either have a line that is conscious or give back through charity work.

The infamous shoe brand TOMS got the whole 'give back' ball rolling and many other brands followed suit. Their ethos is one for one, so if you were to purchase a pair of shoes, they would gift a pair of shoes to a child in need. Similarly with their eyewear, they give the gift of sight, that may sound extreme, but through surgery, prescription eyewear and medical treatment they are truly helping to restore sight for thousands. If you love coffee like me, then you should give their roasted coffee beans a GO! In return, they give the gift of water. Water is something we so easily take for granted in the UK, taking baths, using dishwashers, but for 780 million people, safe water isn't even an option. The TOMS gift that resonates so highly with me, is the gift of safe birth. Having gone through labour in an amazing hospital provided by our NHS with fantastic midwives and doctors, I couldn't even begin to think how I'd cope without the possibility of a safe, equipped environment to give birth in. It makes me sick to think that the NHS is so quickly dismissed and spoken ill of when so many women don't even have a clean floor to give birth on. Thanks to TOMS, and the purchase of their bags, the necessary training and materials have been provided to help the safe birth for 175k mothers and counting. For me shopping with brands like TOMS is a no brainer.

TOMS Roasting Co. purchases have helped provide OVER 450,000 WEEKS OF SAFE WATERTO PEOPLE IN NEED. ONE FOR ONE®.

With their brand growing globally, their range has grown too, from summer slides to suede sneakers, its impossible not to want to buy one of each style. Their sunglasses are sturdy (I have sat on many a pair and their are still in one piece), stylish and essential for your wardrobe.

H&M have been making a step into sustainable fashion since pre 2008, with a goal of all cotton to be sustainably sourced by 2020. In 2009 alone, they made a 50% increase in the use of organic cotton compared with 2008 have continued to grow this over the past 10 years. Not only that, they have pledged great sums to education, clean water, women’s economic empowerment, and many more causes. For seven years running, H&M have been able pride themselves on being named one of the worlds most ethical companies. All year round, H&M offer a conscious range for Men, Women, Kids and Home and its not just your basic T's, they even cater for maternity wear.

It’s a great honour for H&M to be named one of the world’s most ethical companies. Our commitment to be ethical throughout our operations is firmly rooted in our values and key for our work to lead the change towards a sustainable fashion future, said Karl-Johan Persson, CEO at H&M.

In 2013, they launched their garment collecting initiative, enabling folks like us to drop off our unwanted items in store. Apparently, as much as 95% of clothes thrown away could have been re-worn or recycled. Since the initiative launched they have collected 61,000 tonnes of textiles. Yikes!!

I particularly love the H&M baby vests, they're my go-to basic's for Knox. They are also they only high street store that I've been able to find black vests in! I especially love their Kimono, vests that are super easy to put on, great to wash and more interesting than your average baby vest. They also have some sweet joggers and sweatshirts. I tend to wait for their sales as you can pick things up for less than £5!

These are just two of my favourite Fashion brands with a cause, there are so many more out there, so next time you go to buy something, have a little read and find out if there is more to the brand than meets the eye. If you find any goodies, be sure to share!
